Short bio

Law degree. Currently a president of the Belgian Centre for Intelligence Studies  (BISC – UGent in collaboration with ULiège).

Throughout his professional career during and after the military service as an IBE/UDA officer in the Belgian Air Force (1978-1979) he was a lawyer (1978-1982), researcher at the University of Antwerp (Department of Sociology of Law and Social Policy) (1980-1982), head of the Cabinet of the Governor of the Province of Antwerp (1982-1985), district commissioner of Sint-Niklaas and Dendermonde (1985-1999), the first director of the Belgian government’s National Coordination and Crisis Centre (CGCCR, now NCCN) (1987-1989), head of the cabinet of the Federal Minister of the Interior (1999-2002), administrator-general of the Belgian State Security (2002-2006). minister-counsellor at the Belgian ‘Comité politique et de sécurité de l’Union européenne (COPS)’ (2006-2015), minister-counsellor at the European Union Delegation in H.K. Jordan (2015-2019) and an expert in different international projects of the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL) (2020-2024).
