Short bio

Julie holds a master’s degree in Law with great distinction (Ghent University, 2017). During her studies, she attended an advanced course at Helsinki University on International Law, War and New Technologies (Erik Castrén Institute of International Law and Human Rights, 2016). Julie is a former member of the 2016 UGent team for the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition (Washington, 2016).

In the professional domain, Julie served as a lawyer at contrast – European & Business law (Zaventem) from 2017 to 2020, specializing in competition law and privacy & data protection law. Following this, until December 2023, she held the position of Senior Legal Consultant and Fast 50 Technology Ambassador at Deloitte (BE). In this role she guided start-ups, scale-ups, and SMEs through their legal challenges across the domains of business & commercial law, IT & technology law, privacy & data protection, intellectual property, and life sciences and healthcare. She was a sought-after speaker at numerous events and seminars during both of her professional tenures.

As of January 2024, Julie is an academic assistant and Phd Researcher within IRCP and i4S, under guidance of Prof. Dr. Gert Vermeulen and Prof. Dr. Griet Verhenneman. Her research focuses on the challenges of data privacy in the rapidly evolving landscape of digital innovations, with a particular focus on emerging technologies like AI, Blockchain and the Metaverse. Additionally, Julie is a supporting member of i4S. Prior to her current positions, she was a teaching assistant in the course “Data Protection Law (Gegevensbeschermingsrecht)”.
