Short bio
Since June 2026, Tais A. Ruiz Palacios is a PhD researcher at the Department of Criminology, Criminal Law and Social Law at Ghent University and a PhD fellow in the ELSI Unit of the Data Governance Directorate at Sciensano. She was awarded a scholarship from Sciensano to research the legal and ethical aspects of data governance arising in relation to UNCAN-Connect, a Horizon Europe project. She is under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Griet Verhenneman (UGent) and Dr. Wannes van Hoof (Sciensano). She holds an LL.M. in Legal Research, cum laude, from Utrecht University (2025) and an LL.B. in International and European Law from the University of Groningen (2022). During her studies, she worked as a student assistant to the Utrecht Law Review and the EDI Sounding Board of the Faculty of Law. Since 2022, she has also attended several international conferences and (co-)authored several articles and blog posts.
