Short bio

Ayesha Kakar is a PhD researcher at Ghent University, specializing in criminal law and the criminal justice system. Her doctoral research focuses on mob violence, a threat to the rule of law in Pakistan. Her study examines vigilantism in contrast to the formal legal system, with an emphasis on the patterns, dynamics, and prevalence of mob violence in the country. Employing both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, her research explores the root causes of mob violence and investigates its intricate relationship with the legal system and the erosion of the rule of law in Pakistan.
